Menstrual Facial Anyone …

Blood. We can’t live without it.

This viscous life giving liquid has often been fated as an elixir of youth – some even think that the Queen and her Elites smear blood all over them, and ingest blood to live longer … the Vampire Myth had to come from somewhere – right ? 😉  Blood letting stories are as old as time itself – a little research will confirm that for you. Using blood for magical purposes is not unknown either … and one has to wonder why a certain religion’s followers take the blood of their god in transformed wine (not to mention his body in the bread!).

Don’t worry – I’m not advocating human sacrifice before you start.

Soooo – how about the dark red liquid we ‘lose’ monthly .. ?  Menstrual blood…. often a right pain in our wombs (certainly in mine).  Much maligned.  Stupidly so in my opinion.

I’ve always been at ease with my menstruation (although – the older I get the more painful, messy and destructive it has become .. but it’s part of my growth, ageing and evolving process so I accept it).

In my 3rd year of senior school, during a European Studies class – annoyingly I came on.  I called the teacher over (she absolutely hated me by the way) and quietly informed her I’d started my period and could I go to the bathroom, please.  Her answer was a resounding,

“No – you cannot” .. she even smirked !

“Miss, Please!”, pleaded I – to no avail.

She walked back to her table and loudly told me to stop disrupting the class.  I stood up furious, and with as much dignity as I could muster said in a loud, clear voice,

“I’ve just started my period, and you have no right to stop me going to the toilet!” …

The entire class was stunned. Some boys whined the age old word linked to post-pubescent boys and periods …

‘Ewwwwwww’.

Some of the girls actually clapped.

The point is her mean spirit wished to control me by assuming that I’d keep quiet about my reason to need the toilet, which was never going to work as I had no shame about this bodily function.

I grabbed my bag and stormed out.  Straight to the loo – then to my former step dad who managed the adjoining Sports Centre.  All hell broke lose. My step dad and Mum (who’d driven in very quickly like an avenging goddess) were called in to my form tutors office (kind of up the corridor from his own), where Euro Teach was standing looking very happy with herself at the bollocking I was about to experience.  Euro Teach had the nerve to call me ‘Shameless in announcing that I was on my period in front of a class of boys’ in the presence of my parents.  How little they knew our family …… we ensued to educate, dismiss, humiliate and generally take to task these ignorant fools.  My parents allowing me to handle my own defence – before weighing in with their take on the ‘unevolved’ that have an issue with periods in the supposedly enlightened decade of the 80’s.  They pointed out the petty meanness of an obviously incompetent teacher in assuming that punishing a menstruating girl due to lack of general class control, and ineptitude was good teaching practice.   It went down like a lead balloon but the point was parried home.

I – to this day, refuse to put tampons and pads in a bag to hide my shame if I have purchased nothing else to facilitate the wasteful use of a carrier bag .. are you f – ing kidding me !!! I have never been made to be ashamed of having a period. Period !

Back to it … Full of good stuff – not at all dirty – links us to the seasons of the earth, and the pull of the seas, and the swinging through the cosmos of the stars – without them babies couldn’t be born.

The science behind this amazing stuff tells a story of rich nutrients …. here is a bit of info on the current scientific use of period blood taken from thehoneycolony web page –

48021-hi-stem_cell_all“”The use of menstrual blood has been vital to stem cell research. C’elle Cryo-Cell International, one of the world’s largest private cord banks as well as developer of innovative stem cell solutions, has been collecting menstrual blood since 1989. As stated on their website, “Stem cells in menstrual blood are highly proliferative and possess the unique ability to develop into various other types of healthy cells.  During a woman’s menstrual cycle, these valuable stem cells are discarded.
Using menstrual blood instead of embryonic cells also avoids the ethical dilemma that is brought up when discussing the dangers of stem cell research, in addition to it being easier to collect and cause no pain to the donor, like that of bone marrow donations in adult stem cell research,” says C’elle Cyro-Cell director Jonathan Wheeler, M.D. Since stem cells from menstrual blood can differentiate into fat, liver, brain, bone, lung, heart, and pancreas they are optimal for the scientific research that can lead to cures for cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses.””

I have my theories on ‘illness’ and although sure that modern science can solve age old questions – I’m not an advocate of using science to cure illness’s.  I’d rather the world was re-educated to use nutrition to prevent illnesses in the first place – but the above certainly shows how much stock science puts into this potent brew.

I know they are painful.  Annoying at times.  Mine are – they stop me for an entire week – as I have a little issue with my womb that I’m treating naturally with nutrition, etc.   I’m in the process of embracing this difficult time.  Nutrition definitely helps, folks.

The absolutely ridiculous skitishness that modern society has attached to periods is one of the issues that does miff me a tad.  Clearly propagated by long dead and squeamish male folk in a bid to discredit women’s natural cycles – and the divine importance of them …and passed onto contemporary men, and often women (that I can’t get my head around!!).

menstrual_night

It’s heap big powerful JuJu.  Mayhap that is the one reason that it’s been made into such a shameful bodily function.

So before you cry ‘Ewwwww’ … ask yourself why you have an issue with this natural, beautiful, LIFE GIVING function .. is it because you think (have been told, shown, led to believe) it’s dirty ?  Well – how daft is that ?  Guess what – without it you wouldn’t be here, sweet chops.  Embrace the blood letting, Moontide Madness & connection to the Universe.  Bloody Brilliant !

I’m not saying that I’ll be doing a menstrual face mask today … but I might some time soon. Get over it. 😉

Till Later My Lovelies,

  2. I use a diva cup and today I decided to use it as a mask on my face and neck. I left it on for 10 mins. It felt a little tingly and tight for the last 2 minutes or so. I rinsed with lukewarm water and all I can say is WOW!! My skin feels so smooth and fresh!!! I do facials at home once or twice a week with high end products, and this blood facial has made my skin feel more amazing than anything I’ve ever tried! My pores look smaller and I have a dewy glow. I’m gonna do this every day for the rest of my period!
